MRC Projects

The Mekong River Commission IWRM and 3D modelling projects have been funded by the Development Cooperation Department Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Finland. The activities are divided into three parts:

 

1. Tonle Sap Modelling project (WUP-FIN 1):

  • Active: June 2001 -  June 2003
  • Main objective is to understand physical, chemical, biological and socio-economicl conditions in Tonle Sap Lake, Cambodia, and to assist in the maintenance of sustainable conditions of the lake.

2. Lower Mekong Modelling project (WUP-FIN 2):

  • Active: May 2004 - October 2006 (+ extension 2007 - 2008)
  • Main objectives to provide modelling tools, data, and training for the MRCS, NMCs, and local line agencies in Lao PDR, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.

3. Detailed Modelling Support project (DMS):

  • Active: February 2009 - March 2011
  • Support for MRC and Mekong countries in basin development impact assessment, adaptation and mitigation and policy drafting. Components: (i) IWRM-model development, (ii) sediments, (iii) forestry and agriculture productivity, (iv) fisheries, (v) socio-economics, (vi) capacity building, (vii) coordination and liaison. Cross-sectoral and cross-programme project that attempts to increase cooperation between different MRC activities for cross-cutting themes such as sediments.
